Two brothers in Sydney have raised $8.5M, and some of their biggest backers are the specialists already using what they built. Medow Health AI writes up specialist reports so doctors aren’t doing paperwork at night.
The origin
Their dad is a respiratory physician who used to come home and keep writing reports on patients he’d already seen. Joel and Josh Freiberg built an AI to do it instead, starting in 2023. Joel has Crohn’s disease, so both grew up around the health system.
The backers
The $8.5M seed came in three rounds: $2M in January 2025, $3M in November 2025 and $3.5M now. Investors include Prof Michael Boyer, CEO of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, orthopaedic surgeon Dr Michael Solomon and eye surgeon Dr Johnny Wu. They use the product.
The traction
Revenue grew 300% in 2025, according to the company. It says it’s now in more than 1,000 specialist clinics across Australia and New Zealand, and expects to process around 3 million specialist consultations in 2026.
What’s next
The latest $3.5M, from existing investors, funds an AI receptionist. Joel says up to half of patient calls to specialist clinics can go unanswered. The AI picks up, books appointments through the clinic’s existing system and passes messages to clinical staff, with calls handed to a human receptionist when needed.
My read
The handover is the whole thing. Booking an appointment is fine for an AI, but someone ringing about a result that isn’t good wants to hear a person. Going from a tool for doctors to running the front desk is the smart part, because software gets copied and a clinic’s phone line is much harder to take back once you own it.
